I am a Professor of Neuroscience at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. In addition, I am a faculty member of the Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research and the Center for Brain and Spinal Cord Repair and Faculty Leader of the Chronic Brain Injury Program. My background is in neuroscience, immunology, and biochemistry, with specific training and expertise in microglia, inflammatory cytokines, and behavior.  As a Professor at OSU, my research has been concentrated in the areas of aging, neuroimmunology, and neurotrauma.Overall, my research aim is to determine the degree to which the bi-directional communication between the brain and the immune system is affected by age, stress, and traumatic CNS injury and to delineate the mechanism by which inflammatory cytokine pathways cause long-lasting complications (e.g., cognitive decline and depression). My research projects are/have been supported by  the NIH (NIMH, NINDS, NIA, and NR), the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR), and Abbott Nutrition.  Key collaborators of mine include: John Sheridan (OSU), Phil Popovich (OSU), Courtney DeVries (WVU), Ning Quan (FIU), Dana McTigue (OSU), Michele Basso (OSU),  Daniel Eiferman (OSU), Brian Kaspar (OSU), Jonathan Lifshitz (U of A), John Gensel (UK), Staci Bilbo (Duke), F. Rohan Walker (Newcastle), and Jason O'Connor (UTHSCSA). I am also a part of three graduate programs at OSU and a faculty mentor on two training grants.
